How impactor crushers work
Impactor crushers, like their name suggests, impact material rather than operating on a pressure based system like jaw and cone crushers. While they can only handle slightly abrasive material, impact crushers are very useful at more precise crushing, handling smaller pieces of raw material and shaping them to the desired size.
Using a pressure force to crush material often results in unpredictable sizes, so impact crushers use two other types of force to reduce material to the desires size. Horizontal shaft impactors use hammers to pound material to the desired size, which make them very useful in breaking down soft material such as limestone, whilst vertical shaft impactors use velocity to slam material into the wall to break it down, and are often used to create the material necessary for asphalt applications.
